Object Name Fan
Date ca. 1880-1910
Description Cockade fan. Brown glazed fabric leaf with handpainted blue and purple floral design on the front. Reverse side of leaf is plain brown fabric. Leaf is folded and set between two wood sticks that are painted and lacquered in imitation of tortoise-shell. Leaf is circular when open, and has scalloped edge. Metal mount at the end of each stick.

Ownership and History This fan was acquired by the Staten Island Historical Society in 1959 from Franklin Kern Steinrock. It may have belonged to his mother, Sallie (Kern) Steinrock (1870-1951), who resided in Port Richmond, Staten Island.
