Folding fan. Ivory silk satin leaf with hand-painted sprays of small flowers in purple, white, blue, and yellow. Reverse side of leaf is tan silk satin. The ivory sticks have a pierced design of lines and circles, and incised floral design with applied metal spangles. Ivory loop at rivet, with attached white silk ribbon.

This is the wedding fan of Emmeline Bedell, who married George W. Slaight on June 24, 1894. Emmeline's wedding gown is also in the Staten Island Historical Society's collection.
Emmeline Bedell (1869-1950) was one of six children of Israel and Charlotte (Manee) Bedell of Amboy Road in Pleasant Plains, Staten Island. After marriage, Emmeline and her husband resided for many years on Amboy Road in nearby Princes Bay, Staten Island. Their son, George L., was born in 1901.
