Circular pin button with a printed ribbon attached; button is decorated with firefighting symbols in yellow, red and blue on a white background and has a pin fastener on the reverse side. Red ribbon is printed with words in gold: "FOR / TRUSTEE / OF THE / HOME / GEORGE F. / CORNELL / RICHMOND CO. / STATEN ISLAND / NEW YORK."
|Ownership and History||
This ribbon documents George F. Cornell's campaign for election as a trustee of the Firemen's Home. The Volunteer Firemen's Home Association of the State of New York was incorporated June 5, 1890 "for the relief, maintenance, support and protection of meritorious invalid or disabled persons who have served or who may hereafter serve as a volunteer fireman in any of the fire departments within the State of New York." The Firemen's Home is located in Hudson, New York, near the FASNY Museum of Firefighting.
George F. Cornell, a resident of Rosebank, Staten Island, was an active member of the Southern New York Volunteer Firemen's Association as well as a trustee of the Volunteer Firemen's Home.
