Collage wall hanging. Cardboard backing has a glued-on black felt cat with buttons for the eyes and thread for whiskers. At left is a cut-out print of a little boy with a hat and a stick in his hand. Handwritten inscription in pencil on the back: "to / Ernest". Overall dimensions are 5.750" H. x 7.875" W.

This collage was made for Ernest Butts (1872-1953), the son of Mary Haughwout and Alonzo Butts of Mariners Harbor, Staten Island. A matching collage was also made for his sister, Emma.
Ernest was born in Mariners Harbor, and lived his entire life in the Butts family home at 219 Union Avenue. As an adult, he worked as an engineer for the Staten Island Rapid Transit.
