Object Name Sofa
Date 1830-1850
Description Empire scroll style sofa with double scroll arms. Sofa is made of mahogany and mahogany veneer, with beige floral fabric and green velvet-covered bolsters. The top rail has curved ends, and the armrests are formed by the double-scrolled ends of the frame. Straight seat rail. Scrolled feet in front and back, with casters. Made in New York City, probably by the firm of J. & J.W. Meeks.
Ownership and History This style of sofa appears in an advertising broadside produced the by firm of J. & J.W. Meeks in 1833.
