Object Name Fan
Date ca. 1890-1910
Description Folding fan. Black silk gauze leaf has hand-painted floral sprays and garlands in pink, white, and green. In the center is a woman standing in a landscape. She wears a pink dress and red shoes; she holds a pink purse in one hand and gathers her skirt with the other hand. Applied metal sequins form borders around the landscape and the floral sprays. The reverse side of the leaf is plain black gauze. Leaf has narrow black crocheted edging at top and bottom. The wood sticks are painted or lacquered black, with an incised floral design and applied metal spangles. Metal loop is attached at rivet. Probably made in France.
