Description Ship's flag. Marked with the name of "FF ROBERT CURATOLO," a Staten Island resident who was killed September 11, 2001. Has manufacturer's label of Northeast Flags, Mountainside, NJ. Flag is in plastic bag. Sticker on front of bag has printed inscription: "Sail for America / 14 September 2002 / This banner was carried proudly aboard retired FDNY / fireboat John J. Harvey." Sticker also has a black and white illustration of the fireboat. The flag is accompanied by a Sail for America Flag Certification.

Ownership and History Ship's flags like this one were flown on ships in the "Sail for America" memorial event that took place on September 14, 2002 in New York Harbor.

"Sail for America" was initiated by Catherine A. DeRubbio of Staten Island and coordinated through the New York Harbor Sailing Foundation, Inc.

This flag was created in memory of Robert Curatolo, a firefighter with FDNY's Ladder 16. He was killed in the attacks on the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001. Robert grew up in Rosebank, Staten Island, the youngest of eight children. He was newly married and residing on Bay Terrace at the time of his death.
