Object Name Table
Date 1820-1850
Description Empire style center pedestal drop-leaf table. Made of mahogany, with oak or chestnut as secondary wood. The rectangular top has two drop leaves with rounded corners. The center pedestal is faceted (not carved) and ebonized, with gold stenciled leaf pattern around the perimeter of each facet. The sides of the table have gold stenciled decoration in imitation of brass inlay. Table has four carved leaf-pattern legs and paw feet; the casters are replacements. Made in New York City or New York State. Measures 30.250 inches high x 27 inches wide (with leaves down) x 39.375 inches deep
Ownership and History This table is a nice example of New York Empire style furniture. The faceted and painted center pedestal is an uncommon feature.
