Title New Brighton Assemblies
Description Dance card, printed and handwritten on off-white card stock that is folded to form 4 pages. Printed inscription on the front cover: "New Brighton Assemblies. / SEASON OF 1889-90. / THURSDAY, DECEMBER 12TH, 1889. / THURSDAY, JANUARY 2D, 1890. / THURSDAY, JANUARY 23D, 1890. / THURSDAY, FEBRUARY, 13TH, 1890. / PAVILION HOTEL." Alice Austen's initials are handwritten in pencil at the top of the front cover: "E.A.A." The two interior pages contain a numbered list of 18 dances, titled "ORDER OF DANCING."; dances are Waltz, Galop, Polka, and Lanciers. After the name of each dance is a line to fill in the name of a dance partner; all but 5 of the lines have names handwritten in. Names include Ellis, Willcox, Johnstone, and De Bost. The back cover is blank. A small gray pencil is attached to the card by a string which is tied around the fold.
