St. Patrick's Day postcard. Color-printed and embossed illustration of a seated boy in green suit and hat, yellow waistcoat or vest, white shirt, green bow tie, and brown boots with buttons. He is holding a long horn. Printed green and gold inscription "To / Greet you / on / St. Patrick's / Day", with fine print "PAINTING ONLY / COPYRIGHTED BY / THE INT. ART PUB. CO. 1912". Artist's signature "Ellen H. Clapsaddle" appears at lower right. Reverse has divided back with printed headings and publisher information "International Art Publ. Co. / NEW YORK BERLIN / PRINTED IN GERMANY" and "Series No. 1450." Handwritten inscription: "Maggie Fitzpatrick".

The young boy pictured on this holiday greeting card is dressed as a leprechaun, the Irish fairy of folklore. The artwork was created by Ellen Clapsaddle, a noted American illustrator and commercial artist who was known for her pictures of children with sweet expressions. The verse printed beneath the illustration reads, "Erin, the tear and the smile / in thine eyes / Blend like the rainbow / that hangs in thy skies."
