Object Name Purse
Date 1840-1870
Description Silk purse with drawstring closure. Tulip-shaped with scalloped top edges, pink drawstring, and tassel trim at bottom center. Top part of the bag is pink; bottom part is white, with deep sawtooth-shaped join. Decorated with embroidery and pink and white silk braid, hand-looped and applied. The piece was worked flat, then sewn up the single side seam. White silk lining, with coarse interlining on body of bag below drawstring casing. Multicolor tassel on bottom is mounted on flower-shaped passementerie trim. Probably made by a professional, not homemade.
