|Ownership and History||
Rubsam and Horrmann's brewery, established on Staten Island in 1870, was a major presence in the community for many decades before it was bought by Piels in 1953.
Composer Clarence Gaskill lived on Staten Island in the 1940s. He is best remembered for songs like "Minnie the Moocher," co-written with Irving Mills and Cab Calloway.
The cover artist, Albert Barbelle, also spent part of his life as a Staten Island resident. Barbelle is remembered for Tin Pan Alley sheet music covers and for his early illustrations of Mickey Mouse. In later life he was actively involved in the Staten Island Institute of Arts and Sciences.
