Object Name Card, Trade
Date ca. 1885
Description Trade card. Chromolithograph on paper. Humorous illustration of a woman and a man in an interior. The woman is seated at a table, sewing; next to her is a man seated in a chair. He is tied up with thread from a large spool on the floor with label "CLARK'S / MILE-END / SPOOL COTTON". Printed caption at top of card: "HOW TO KEEP HUSBANDS AT HOME, NIGHTS." The reverse side has advertising text for Best Six Cord. Printed at bottom on reverse: "Donaldson Brothers, Five Points, N.Y."
Acquisition From Alice Austen
Ownership and History Donaldson Brothers printing firm was located in the Five Points neighborhood of lower Manhattan, New York City. It was established in 1872 and merged with the American Lithographic Company in 1892.

This card is part of a collection of personal items that came to the Staten Island Historical Society from photographer Alice Austen in 1945.
