Object Name Card, Greeting
Date 1887 inscription
Description Greeting card with color-printed illustration of five children sitting on a fence with their faces away from the viewer. Printed inscription below: "May the NEW YEAR / find and leave thee blest." Fine print at lower left: W. HAGELBERG." and at lower right: "No. 339. COPYRIGHT." Card is rectangular with rounded corners and gold edge. The reverse side has handwritten inscription in ink: "For Alice with Julia's best love." The date "1887" is penciled underneath the inscription.

Ownership and History This card is part of a collection of personal items that came to the Staten Island Historical Society from photographer Alice Austen in 1945. "Julia" is likely Julia Martin, Julia Marsh, or Julia Bredt, all close friends of Alice Austen.
