Description Pair of canvas sneakers with overall stars and stripes pattern in red, white, and blue. Rounded rubber toes and flat rubber soles. Top closing with white fabric shoelaces. Embossed mark on sole of each: "5 / MADE IN U.S.A.." Inner sole of each is red, white, and blue, with a printed image of a basketball player and inscription: "MADE IN U.S.A. / FULL CUSHION INSOLE / CUSHION ARCH." [See also matching hat 77.031.0001].

Acquisition From Rosemary Fitzgerald
Ownership and History These sneakers were acquired by the Staten Island Historical Society in 1977. They were most likely worn for 1976 Bicentennial celebrations. The donor, Rosemary Fitzgerald, worked with the Historical Society's Education Department in the 1970s.
