Description Original B&W print on tan cardboard mount. View of the house and grounds belonging to Eckstein Norton in St. George, Staten Island. The house is mostly hidden by trees in bloom. In the foreground are gardens; a man is working in the garden at left. Other buildings are visible. There is a faint impressed mark in the lower right corner of the mount: "ALMSTAEDT / PHOTOGRAPHER / TOMPKINSVILLE / STATEN ISLAND", with entwined letters "IA" in the center of the inscription.

Ownership and History Eckstein Norton (1831-1893) had a long career with several railroad companies, including serving as President of the Louisville and Nashville Railroad from 1887 to 1891. He was a native of Kentucky, but moved to New York City in 1864, and later lived in St. George, Staten Island.
