Description Original B&W photo on gray cardboard mount. View of the water and side and front view of the Staten Island Athletic Club boathouse. Several sculls are in the water with men rowing; other men stand on the dock and on the porch and balcony of the building. A pencil line is drawn around the photo. Handwritten inscription in pen below the photo (probably the photographer's handwriting): "No 210 / S.I. Athletic C. Boat House." Attributed to Isaac Almstaedt. The mount has tape binding along one edge, suggesting it may have been part of an album.

Ownership and History This photo shows the Staten Island Athletic Club's first boathouse, located at the foot of Franklin Avenue in New Brighton, Staten Island. The boathouse was destroyed by two passing tugboats in October 1886, and the Athletic Club opened a new boathouse in 1887.
