Description Original glass plate negative. Interior view of the middle parlor at Clear Comfort, the Austen family home in Rosebank, Staten Island. Alice Austen (at left) and her friend Julia Bredt (in center) are seated in a room with Jack Eccleston (right) and a man identified as Ben. All are holding instruments: Alice and Jack hold banjos, and Julia and Ben hold guitars. The inscription on the negative envelope appears to have been transcribed from the photographer's original inscription: "A.5 / No. 91 / Jack, Ben, Julia Bredt / & Self / Tues. Oct. 21, 1890."
