Description Original tintype. Full-length portrait of a man seated in a chair, with his left arm resting on a table. He is wearing a policeman's uniform, and his uniform cap is on the table. He is in a photographer's studio in front of a rustic fence and a painted backdrop that includes trees and a balcony. Reverse side has a handwritten label adhered: "SEYMOUR / LYVERRE [sic] / S.I. POLICE."

Ownership and History Seymour Lyvere was one of the first members of the Richmond County Mounted Dragoons, a mounted police force formed on Staten Island in 1895. He later worked as a patrolman in the 81st precinct in Manhattan.
