Description Original glass plate negative. Julia Martin is seen in profile seated in a small horse-drawn cart; she holds the reins in her hands. A young boy, identified in the inscription as Richard Wachmore, is seated next to her. A man wearing a top hat and a long double-breasted coat (probably a coachman) stands to the left holding the horse's bridle. In the background is the arched entryway to a house, with a woman standing in the doorway.

Acquisition Museum Purchase
Ownership and History Julia Martin was a close friend of the photographer Alice Austen. In this photo she is in front of the Martin family's home, which was on a 25-acre estate facing the ocean in Clifton, Staten Island.
