Description Original glass plate negative. Alice Austen (left) and Annie Collins, both wearing bathing suits, stand on the beach leaning against the boardwalk in Bay Head, New Jersey; they look directly at the camera. Behind them is a building with oval openings around the porch. In the background at right are four women and one man sitting on a bench. Inscription on the negative envelope identifies this as "Annie Collins & / self in bathing suits / Tuesday Aug. 25, 1891. Bay head."

Ownership and History Annie Collins was the daughter of Rev. Charles Jewett Collins, a Presbyterian minister and educator. She married Walter B. Howe in New York City on May 28, 1895.
