Ownership and History In May 1880, Mr. and Mrs. Anson Phelps Stokes celebrated their 15th wedding anniversary by hosting an elaborate garden party at their home, known as "Bay Villa," in New Brighton, Staten Island. The affair, with more than 750 invited guests, featured a variety of sports, a full orchestra, a dance floor, and a 16-course dinner that the New York Times described as a "marvel of culinary art." The evening ended with a display of fireworks on the lawn in front of the house.

Mr. and Mrs. Anson Phelps Stokes and their children lived part of the year in this house from 1868 to 1886.
