Description Original B&W print with fabric backing and a paper tab at left (appears to have been part of an album). Front view of a two-story building with a porch, on the boardwalk at South Beach, Staten Island; the beach is in the foreground. Sign on the building: "GILLIES' PLEASANT VIEW." Sign on the porch: "JOHN D. GILLIES." At left is the entrance to a bath house. The Eureka Hotel is at right. There are no people present in the image. An identical photo is dated 1912.

Ownership and History This is one of a group of photographs donated to the Historical Society in 1952 by Edwin H. Skinner, who for many years was manager of the Staten Island Beach Land Improvement Company in South Beach.
