Ownership and History Walton Martin was born in Staten Island, New York, in 1869. He was the son of Clementine and I. Kingsley Martin; his sister, Julia, was a good friend of photographer Alice Austen. Walton Martin graduated from Yale in 1889, and graduated from the College of Physicians and Surgeons at Columbia University in 1892. He resided in Manhattan and had a lengthy career as a surgeon, as well as teaching surgery at Columbia and writing medical and science books.
