Object Name Print, Photographic
Photographer Almstaedt, Isaac
Date ca. 1885
Collection Isaac Almstaedt Photograph Collection
Description Original B&W photo on gray cardboard mount. Interior view of the Staten Island Athletic Club boathouse. The room has a high ceiling with wooden cross beams; chairs are lined up around the sides and front of the room. A door is in the center, with a piano to the left. The room is decorated with American flags draped like bunting, and flags and banners mounted on the side walls. A board to the right of the door has photos mounted on it. A spittoon is visible on the floor at right. A pencil line is drawn around the photo. Handwritten inscription in pen below the photo (probably the photographer's handwriting): "No 213 / S.I. Athletic Boat House. Interior." Attributed to Isaac Almstaedt. Photo 96.19.28.B is on the reverse side of the mount. The mount has tape binding along one edge, suggesting it may have been part of an album.
