Original glass plate negative. Alice Austen (center), Violet Ward (right), and Caroline Ward (left) stand on the lawn of the Austen house, Clear Comfort, in Rosebank, Staten Island. All three women are wearing bathing suits and bathing caps. The porch of the house is partially visible at right. The original negative sleeve has the photographer's handwritten inscription: "A.R / 40 / No. 29 / V. & C. Ward & self in bathing suits / Fine day, in shade / 3.30 P.M / Friday 11th July 1890 / D".
