Ownership and History Dairy farming, along with the processing and packaging of milk products, were important activities on Staten Island in the early 1900s. One of the larger businesses was Meadow Brook Dairy of Stapleton. Leo Sander founded the company in 1894, when he bought a milk route and one delivery truck from a retiring dairyman. The business grew substantially and was continued by his sons after Sander's death in 1925. Note the miniature milk wagon pulled by a goat in the center of the photo.
