Description Original glass plate negative. Three men in bathing suits stand on the beach at South Beach, Staten Island, looking out at men and women in the water. Several people sit or stand on a floating dock. Wooden posts on shore and in the water are connected with rope to define the area for swimming. A man in a catamaran is rowing out into the water; the boat has inscription "LIFE BOAT" on the hull. The buildings of the Quarantine station on Hoffman Island are visible in the distance at right.
