Description Original B&W postcard. View of the Christopher House with a large tree and an outbuilding at left. Printed inscription at bottom: "CHRISTOPHER HOUSE, Willowbrook Road, S.I." Several inscriptions printed on reverse: printed along top left: "THE CHRISTOPHER HOUSE, erected about / 1750, is said to have been the meeting place of the / Committee of Safety, maintained by patriot Staten / Islanders during the Revolution. A large swamp close / by, afforded refuge in case of discovery by the British." Printed along top right: "Post Card / PLACE STAMP / HERE." Printed along a line down the center: "LUMITONE PRESS PHOTO-PRINT. NEW YORK - MADE IS U.S.A."

Ownership and History This postcard shows the Christopher House when it was at its original location, at 819 Willowbrook Road in Willowbrook, Staten Island. After it was deeded to the Staten Island Historical Society in 1969, the house was disassembled and reconstructed west of Arthur Kill Road at Historic Richmond Town.
