|Ownership and History||
The posters visible on the outside of the building at right provide advertising for Ernie's Polar Cave; Hawaiian music at the Melody Club in New Dorp; and (at far right) "STATEN ISLAND / DRIVE-IN / AUTO THEATRE / ... / SIT IN YOUR CAR / SEE AND HEAR THE MOVIES / ... / NOW / OPEN".
A native of Staten Island, Herbert A. Flamm was an active community leader as well as a prolific commercial photographer. Clients such as the Board of Transportation, the Richmond Poster Company, and owners of family businesses hired Mr. Flamm to document local stores and street scenes. The Staten Island Historical Society owns more than 7,000 of Mr. Flamm’s original film negatives.
