Description Original glass plate negative. Diagonal front and side view of Nathaniel Hawthorne's birthplace and surrounding buildings in Salem, Massachusetts. A woman with a parasol stands next to the corner of the building, near a lamppost. The original negative sleeve has the photographer's handwritten inscription: "Stanley / 35 / 304 / Hawthornes birthplace / Fine, clear, sunny day / W.L. / 3 P.M. Inst / 60 ft / Thursday June 16th / 1892 / Salem / Mass."
