Description Original B&W print. View of the beach at South Beach, Staten Island, with the boardwalk in the background. There are folding chairs and beach umbrellas on the beach; two women are seated in chairs at left. In the center of the image is a wooden walkway extending onto the beach from the boardwalk; several people walk or stand on the walkway. The boardwalk is crowded with men and women. The building in the center of the image has sign "SIBLICO BATHS." Other signs visible on the boardwalk include "CRYSTAL PHOTO STUDIO;" "COLD LEMON[ADE] / SOFT DRI[NKS];" "PARCELS / CHECKED / 5c;" and "HELLER'S RESTAURANT / QUICK / LUNCH / CLAM / CHOWDER / 10c." Inscription lower right: "N.Y. PHOTO CO." A handwritten inscription on the reverse dates this August 20, 1916.

Ownership and History The name "SIBLICO" seen on the bathhouse stands for the Staten Island Beach Land Improvement Company, which operated the beach and boardwalk at South Beach.
