Description Original glass plate negative. Alice Austen, Gertrude Tate, and two men are on the lawn of Clear Comfort, with the house partially visible at right. Gertrude sits in a chair, while Alice sits on the arm of the chair. The two men stand to the left and right of Gertrude and Alice; both are wearing hats and overcoats. The original Austen negative sleeve has the photographer's handwritten inscription: "Special Velox / Lumiere / Z / 45 secs / The Schlubachs / G.A.T., EAA / Oct 13th 1907 / In shade 3. PM / 1 sec / Fair".

Ownership and History Alice Austen and her friend Gertrude Tate pose outside the Austen family home, Clear Comfort, in Rosebank, Staten Island. The two men are identified only as "The Schlubachs" in Austen's inscription.
