Description Original B&W print on dark gray cardboard mount. Posed group portrait of firefighters in uniform; four men are seated in chairs in the front row and eight men stand in the back row. A young boy wearing a fireman's uniform is seated in the front center; he appears to be sitting on an American flag. Above him is a banner with inscription: "Competition for / VOLUNTEER HOSE COMPANIES / AT / RICHMOND COUNTY FAIR. / Sept. 10th. 1904. / WON BY / VIGILANT HOSE CO. NO. 1 / Tottenville F.D." The group is in front of a wooden building. Handwritten inscription on the mount below the photo: "MEMBERS OF THE / VIGILANT HOSE COMPANY NO 1 / TOTTENVILLE 1904 STATEN ISLAND." Handwritten inscription on the reverse: "Chester A. Cole / Tottenville."
