Description Original glass plate negative. Julia Bredt sits on an ornate upholstered chair on the porch of Clear Comfort (Austen house) in Rosebank, Staten Island. She wears a white or light color dress and holds a bouquet of flowers. She looks toward the left edge of the image. Inscription "E.A.A." is in the lower right corner. Inscription on the negative sleeve identifies this as "Julia Bredt, full length, side face, September 19, 1892."

Acquisition Museum Purchase
Ownership and History Julia Bredt (ca. 1872-1949) was a long-time friend of photographer Alice Austen. Her family lived for a time on an estate close to the Austen family home, but in the early 1880s they moved to Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where Alice visited Julia in 1891 and 1892.
