Description Original glass plate negative. William Munroe Austen stands on a brick path beside a flower bed. The girl standing next to him, with her back to the camera, is most likely his sister Elizabeth Patty Austen. There is a fence on the far side of the flower bed; trees and a house are in the background. The location is not identified, but it may be the backyard at the home of Peter T. Austen and family in New Brunswick, New Jersey.

Ownership and History Peter Townsend Austen (1852-1907) was the uncle of noted Staten Island photographer Alice Austen. He and his wife Nellie had three children: William Munroe, Elizabeth Patty, and Oswald Townsend.
