Acquisition Gift of Phyllis Borea
Ownership and History Peter Townsend Austen (1852-1907) was the uncle of noted Staten Island photographer Alice Austen. This photo was most likely taken in the shore town of Bay Head, New Jersey, where Peter and his wife Nellie and their three children vacationed during several summers in the 1880s and 1890s.
