Description Original B&W photo on gray cardboard mount. Diagonal view of the Staten Island Rapid Transit ferry boat "ERASTUS WIMAN;" the name is on the side of the boat. No passengers are visible. A pencil line is drawn around the photo. Handwritten inscription in pen below the photo (probably the photographer's handwriting): "286 / Erastus Wiman. S.I.R.T." Attributed to Isaac Almstaedt. The mount has tape binding along one edge, suggesting it may have been part of an album.

Acquisition Museum Purchase
Ownership and History The ferryboat "Erastus Wiman" was put into service in 1888 as part of the Staten Island Rapid Transit Ferry Company; it was certified to carry 4,000 passengers. The "Erastus Wiman" was renamed "Castleton" in 1894.
