Ownership and History The Port Richmond Day Nursery was founded ca. 1895 in a small house at 36 Maple Avenue in Port Richmond, Staten Island. It subsequently moved to a nearby location at 93 Park Avenue. It was supported by voluntary contributions, donations at Thanksgiving and Christmas and collections made by various churches. In 1908 it was able to provide child care for about 2,000 children. The Day Nursery is still in existence as of 2015, located at 166 Lockman Avenue in Mariners Harbor.
