Description Original glass plate negative. Outdoor setting; a group of five women, three men, and two young children pose around a hammock. The woman seated at far left is Mary Louise Eccleston, and the man standing at far right may be her husband, Rev. Dr. John Eccleston. Their daughter Trude Eccleston stands at left, next to Mary, and Trude's sister Edith (Eccleston) Blunt sits on the hammock, holding her sons Stanhope and Bertie. The man seated on the ground next to Trude is her future husband, Charles Barton; he and Trude hold tennis rackets. Trees in bloom and a fence are in the background. The location is Mahopac, New York.

Ownership and History Trude Eccleston was one of photographer Alice Austen's closest friends, and Austen took numerous photographs of the Eccleston family. Here they are visiting Mahopac, New York, a popular 19th-century summer resort about 50 miles north of New York City.
