Description Original glass plate negative. Eight women are seated in a rowboat in a lake, near the shore; a small wooden dock is behind them. Trude Eccleston is second from left, and Alice (Butler) Parmele is fourth from left (holding an oar, seen in profile). A girl sits on the edge of the dock. Two unoccupied boats, trees, and distant mountains are also visible. Inscription on the negative sleeve: "Rowboat at the / Butlers' / Camp Andrews / Wednesday / Aug 30, 1893 / Lake George."

Ownership and History "The Butlers" identified in the inscription are likely the family of Alice Austen's friends Alice (Butler) Parmele and Mary (Butler) Alburger. The Butler family lived in Clifton, Staten Island.
