Description Original glass plate negative. Three men are seated in a rowboat, and five women wearing bathing suits stand in the water around the boat. Alice Austen stands at far left, wearing a large hat; Trude Eccleston stands at right, behind the boat. In the distance is a two-masted schooner; other sailing ships are visible in the distance. Photograph was possibly taken by Alice Austen's uncle Oswald Muller. The original Austen negative sleeve has Austen's handwritten inscription: "No. 8 / Bathers in boat in front house / Instantaneous / Thursday Sept 17th / 85 / 12.30 P.M".
