Description Original glass plate negative. The Eccleston family poses on the porch of their home at St. John's Rectory in Clifton, Staten Island. The people in the back row, from left to right, are Samuel Eccleston (seated on the pile of firewood); Marie (Parmele) Eccleston; Trude Eccleston; Frederick Frelinghuysen Mercer; Reverend Dr. John C. Eccleston; and John Bowers Eccleston. The woman seated in the center of the group is Mary Louise Eccleston; Albert Jr. (Bertie) Blunt and Stanhope Blunt stand on either side. Edith (Eccleston) Blunt is seated on the ground. St. John's Church is visible in the background. The photographer's original negative sleeve identifies the group as "Dr & Mrs. Eccleston, Trude / Group at the Rectory / Sam / Jack, Marie Edith Bertie Stanhope Fred / Mercer / In shade on back piazza / good light / W.L. / 1 sec / 15 ft / 3.50 p.m / Sunday Feb 26th / 1893".

Ownership and History Trude Eccleston was a close friend of photographer Alice Austen. In this photo, she poses with her parents, Rev. John C. and Mary Louise Eccleston; her siblings Samuel, John (nickname Jack), and Edith; her sister-in-law Marie (John's wife); and Edith's sons Bertie and Stanhope. Frederick Frelinghuysen Mercer, the man standing in back center, was the brother-in-law of Mary Louise Eccleston.
