Portrait photograph, cabinet card format on cream mount with green printed border and rounded corners. Bust portrait of Isaac Haughwout of Mariners Harbor, Staten Island. He is an older man with white or gray hair and beard; he wears a dark suit over a white shirt with dark necktie. Printed inscription in green on the mount below the photo: "Lake / Richmond Terrace, / Port Richmond, S. I." This same image was published in a February 14, 1903, Richmond County Advance article celebrating Mr. Haughwout's life on the occasion of his 91st birthday.
|Biography and History||
Isaac Haughwout (1812-1903), a shoemaker and carpenter, lived most of his life on Staten Island. For many years his home was in a house that he built at 219 Union Avenue in Mariners Harbor.
This photograph is part of a collection of materials given to the Staten Island Historical Society in 1938 by Emma Butts, granddaughter of Isaac Haughwout.
