Description Papers of the Cornelius Arthur Egbert family of Staten Island. Materials include World War II correspondence written by brothers Albert, Richard, and Cornelius Arthur Egbert. Materials also include correspondence, photographs, greeting cards, and other ephemera associated with the brothers and with other members of the Egbert family and their ancestors, including items with surnames Leonori and Barwick. A small portion of the collection relates to the military service of Neil Arthur Egbert during the Vietnam War. Genealogy notes show interrelationship between the Egbert, Leonori, Barwick, and Bollerman, Bird, and Perine families.

Biography and History Cornelius Arthur Egbert (b. ca. 1916) was also known as Arthur Egbert or C. Arthur Egbert. He was born and raised on Staten Island, residing in Castleton Corners and later Grant City, before leaving the Island ca. 2000 to move to upstate New York. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941-1945, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant in C. Company Corps of Engineers. He later worked as an underwriter for the Insurance Company of North America.

Cornelius Arthur Egbert was the son of Cornelius Perine Bird Egbert and Elmira Barwick, and grandson of Cornelius B. Egbert and Sarah Josephine Leonori. Cornelius' brothers, Richard and Albert, are also represented in the collection. Cornelius Arthur Egbert married Virginia Sawyer in 1944. Their son, Neil Arthur Egbert (b. 1947) was wounded in Vietnam in 1968 while serving with the 14th Infantry, 4th Division, U.S. Army.
